How Our Vacuum Parts and Fittings Can Be Used

Mar 21st 2018

At HyVac, we offer an extensive inventory of vacuum parts and fittings that include centering rings, port covers, vacuum nipples, and instrument adapters that are all made in the USA! Often in the vacuum fittings industry, you find a company with parts that work, but if you need any type of assistance, it’s nowhere to be found. We not only carry the highest quality vacuum parts, but we have an office comprised of shipping and customer services representatives to help you in every process of your HyVac order. Because our vacuum fittings are quite niche, their knowledge of the parts we carry goes beyond most companies. You can have it all with HyVac — USA made vacuum fittings and skilled and knowledgeable customer service.

If you’re new to the ultra-high vacuum (UHV) industry or need a refresher on what they do and the parts we carry, follow along for more information about UHVs.

It’s Not a Traditional Cleaning Vacuum

The vacuum fittings and parts we manufacture do not accompany the traditional vacuums used to clean homes and offices, so our centering rings and port covers will not fix your Dyson or Bissell vacuum!

The UHV That Our Parts Are For

Now that we’ve clarified what our vacuum fittings are not used for, we’ll expand on what they are made for. The USA made vacuum parts we manufacture are for a specific type of vacuum called the ultra-high vacuum (UHV). What, then, is an UHV? A UHV is a vacuum chamber that implements pressure levels in the range of 10-7 pascal or 100 nanopascals, and their conditions are devised by pumping gas out of the UHV chamber. The low pressures that are created allow gas molecules to collide with the walls of the chamber countless times before they collide with the other gas molecules. As a result of this UHV atmosphere, essentially all the molecular interactions will take place on numerous surfaces in and around the chamber.

The vacuum parts we manufacture, fit to the UHV chamber to help produce the variables needed to create the specific pressures required for research, so our parts help the success of the research being conducted!

What is a UHV?

A UHV is more of a condition than an actual physical vacuum created within a chamber, and our parts help to create that atmosphere with manufactured vacuum fittings such as vacuum nipples and clamps. UHV is used in scientific research such as surface science – studying physical and chemical bi-phasal interactions – that depend upon a chemically clean surface in the absence of adsorbates (a component that dissolves or permeates liquid and solid states).

There are specific scientific tools such as an x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and low-energy ion scattering device that require UHV conditions to carry electron or ion beams. For example, the beam pipes in the particle accelerators housed in the Large Hadron Collider are stored in an UHV environment.

Now that you understand why our vacuum-fitting parts are a crucial element in the scientific community for creating conditions to conduct research, in part two we’ll expand more on the materials used and the specific uses an UVH is necessary for.
